How to wear the Tunes Band under a ski helmet

Tunes Band Bluetooth ski headband in black on a snowy mountain backdrop

Put the Tunes Band on first, with the speakers sitting over your ears, then your helmet and goggles on top. It takes seconds, sits flat under the helmet, and there's nothing to clip in or lose. Here's the order, with a short video of it going on.

The Tunes Band going on over a balaclava, then a ski helmet and goggles on top.

Before your first ski day

  1. Charge it. About 2 hours by USB. Charge it the night before, because cold shortens any battery.
  2. Pair it once. Turn it on and pick it in your phone's Bluetooth settings, like any headphones. It works with iPhone and Android and needs no app. The set-up guide has the details, including group calls.

How to put it on, step by step

  1. Band first. Pull the band over your head so it sits around your ears. If you wear a balaclava or neck warmer, put that on first and the band over it.
  2. Line up the speakers. Slide the band until each speaker sits right over an ear. The knit should lie flat, with no folds under where the helmet goes.
  3. Helmet on. Put your helmet on over the band and do up the chin strap. The helmet should sit level, just as it does without the band, with nothing pressing on your ears.
  4. Goggles on. Goggles go on last, with the strap around the outside of the helmet as usual.
  5. Start the music or the call. Play your music, or start a WhatsApp, Discord or phone group call with your crew. Calls need mobile signal or data, like any call.

Fit checks

  • Nothing should press. The speakers are slim and flat, so under most ski helmets you won't notice them. If something presses, move the band so the speakers sit in the helmet's ear area.
  • Full-face and tight-fitting helmets: try the band with your own helmet at home before the trip. There's more in our guide to headphones under a ski helmet.
  • Buttons: they sit on the band, so you can find them by feel with gloves on.
  • Volume: keep it low enough to hear the people around you. See is it safe to wear headphones while skiing.

After skiing: charging and washing

Charge it overnight for the next day. To wash it, take the speakers out, hand wash the knit band in cool water, and let it dry fully before you put the speakers back in.

FAQ

Can I wear it over a balaclava?

Yes. Put the balaclava on first and the band over it, then your helmet.

Will it fit under my ski helmet?

It's built to sit flat under a ski helmet, with slim speakers inside soft stretch knit. Try it with your own helmet before the trip, especially a full-face one.

Do I need an app?

No. Pair it once in your phone's Bluetooth settings like any headphones.

How long does the battery last?

The supplier rates it at up to 6 hours of music and 4 to 6 hours of talk. Cold shortens any battery, so charge it the night before.
