Privacy policy

Last updated: 28 September 2026

This policy explains what personal information Alpine Essentials collects when you visit our store, buy from us or contact us, why we use it, and the choices you have. Alpine Essentials is a trading name of a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, and we are the controller of your personal information under UK and EU data protection law.

What we collect

  • Order details: your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number if you give it, what you order and how you pay. Card details are handled by our payment providers; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Messages: what you tell us when you contact us, ask for a return or leave a review.
  • Account details: if you create an account, your login details and order history.
  • Device and usage information: your IP address, browser, device and how you use our store, collected with cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies below).
  • Marketing preferences: whether you've signed up to our emails or texts.

How we use it, and our legal basis

  • To take, deliver and support your order, including payment, delivery, tracking, returns, refunds and customer service. Legal basis: performing our contract with you.
  • To keep accounts and tax records and meet our other legal duties. Legal basis: legal obligation.
  • To keep our store secure, prevent fraud, improve our store and products, and ask for a review after your order arrives. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a safe and useful shop. You can object at any time.
  • To send marketing emails or texts, only if you sign up. Legal basis: consent. Every message has an unsubscribe link.
  • To use analytics and advertising cookies, only if you allow them in our cookie banner. Legal basis: consent.

We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Who we share it with

Each provider gets only what it needs to do its job:

  • Shopify, which hosts our store and checkout.
  • Payment providers: Shopify Payments and the payment method you choose at checkout, for example PayPal or Klarna, to take payment and prevent fraud.
  • Our fulfilment partner, based in China, which packs and ships your order and receives your name, delivery address, phone number and order contents.
  • Delivery companies and customs authorities, to deliver your parcel and clear it through customs.
  • Our reviews provider, Judge.me, to send review requests and show reviews.
  • Advertising and analytics partners, for example Meta, TikTok and Google, only if you allow marketing or analytics cookies.
  • Professional advisers and public authorities, where we need to for legal, tax or accounting reasons.

Shopify

Shopify processes your information to run our store. It also uses information about your interactions with our store and other Shopify stores to provide features such as fraud protection, faster checkout and more relevant ads, and for that use Shopify is responsible for your information. You can read how Shopify uses it, and exercise your rights with Shopify, at privacy.shopify.com.

International transfers

Some of these providers process information outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including our fulfilment partner in China and Shopify in Canada. Where a country has no adequacy decision, the transfer is necessary to deliver the order you asked for, and we use contractual safeguards recognised by UK and EU law where our providers offer them.

How long we keep it

  • Order and payment records: 6 years, for tax and accounting.
  • Customer service messages: 2 years after our last contact.
  • Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe. We then keep your email address on a do-not-contact list so we don't message you again.
  • Your account: until you ask us to close it.
  • Cookies: as shown in our cookie banner.

Cookies

Our store uses cookies it needs to work, such as keeping your cart and securing checkout. With your permission, we also use cookies for preferences, analytics and marketing. You choose in the cookie banner on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time with the Cookie preferences link under Terms and policies at the bottom of every page.

Keeping it safe

Payments go through Shopify's encrypted checkout, and we limit access to your information to what's needed to serve you. No system is completely secure, so please don't send card details or passwords in messages.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, send it to another provider, or stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time; this doesn't affect anything we did before. You can always object to direct marketing. We'll reply within one month, and we may need to confirm your identity first.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or, in the EU, to your local data protection authority.

Children

Our store is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

We'll update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top.
